Advert Evaluation

The task given was to create a television advertisement to a near professional standard. As a group, Elizabeth and Sidique and I decided to do an advert on glasses. The brand product we chose to advertise was Ralph Lauren glasses. The whole advert is in split screen because there is comparison being made between the Ralph Lauren glasses and "normal/plain" glasses. It shows a person who goes out to get a job. He is shown on one part wearing the normal glasses, where he goes to the wrong store; and on the other part he is wearing the Ralph Lauren glasses and goes to the right place he is supposed to. The slogan used was "See your future brighter with us".

Every part of the making the advert went well. We managed to film everything in under two hours and it was edited and uploaded on the same day. The advert itself went well because it went almost completely as it was planned.

How faithful to your finished advertisement was your original idea?

The finished advertisement was almost completely matched to the original planned idea. There were a few things changed during filming. This was because we realised that the advert would be too long if all these things were put into it. A lot of the planned shots were changed to more basic ones, allowing the advert to be the right length of time.

How effective was your advert in communicating to the product's chosen target audience?

The advert communicated quite well to the audience as it gave an engaging narrative. There was a slogan and a comparison between the good product and the bad product.

Weaknesses & Improvements

To improve the video, there could be a better range in the shot sizes as the ones used were all quite basic and similar. Another improvement could be made with the presentation of the actual product. There was no scientific explanation to the quality of the product which, if included, could have improved to the persuasion technique.
